Visit Sudha Cars Museum in Hyderabad, Telangana, to find out. Here, these objects come to life in the form of larger-than-life wacky cars that are fully functional. Yes, they can be driven on the roads!
Myriad designs
K. Sudhakar has designed over 700 vehicles in different shapes and sizes: bikes in the shapes of insects, and cars shaped like a shoe complete with laces and stitches, a camera, a burger, a cake, a coffee mug, a pencil, a football, a handbag, a lipstick, and even a toilet with a flush! One of his popular designs is a bed car with a 60cc engine and two seats, that can travel at a speed of 60 kmph. So if you visit Hyderabad, keep your eyes peeled, for you may just spot one of them on the road.
He has also designed the smallest bicycle in India which is just six inches high and the tallest tricycle in the world that’s over 41 feet high. As his collection expanded, he decided to throw it open to the public, following which the museum was set up in 2010.
Sudhakar builds each of these cars individually by hand using junk material sourced from scrap dealers and recycles them.
It’s not all for fun though. Sudhakar also aims to create awareness about various social and health issues by designing theme-based cars like a cigarette car with the words “Break the habit” written on it. He has also built cars to commemorate various occasions like the Telangana festival of Bathukamma and a broom car for the Swachh Bharat Telangana campaign.
These crazy cars attract a lot of people during road shows where visitors are offered free rides. Sudhakar has always been passionate about cars. A Guinness world record holder, he designed his first vehicle — a bike — when he was 14, and continues to explore the world of possibilities in creating cars and bikes in different designs.
