As you might have heard, last month, 'Pokémon Go' took the world by storm despite mixed reviews. More than the game, it is important for us to understand what 'augmented reality' is.
You would have heard about 'Virtual Reality' (VR) where the real world is replaced with a virtual or simulated one, which could even be imaginary. Augmented reality (AR) is a live (direct or indirect) view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (supplemented) by inputs such as graphics, sound, videos or GPS data. These would be available on your devices such as smart-phones, tabs, headsets, etc.
e.g. If you go to a grocery shop and point your smart-phone at it, it might actually tell you, what grocery is available, what is in stock etc. The applications are immense. Here's a short video to understand it better.
