Gurgling up from the earth in a display of psychedelic colours are the Dallol sulphur hot springs in northeastern Africa in the Danakil Depression in the Great Rift Valley. To further enhance the surreality, it is surrounded by orange rocks.

In Alaska, the Mendenhall Glacier gives you a chance to experience water in all its stages. The ice formation radiates a milky blue and under the glacier are the ice caves that are millions of years old. The caves are an adventurer’s dream with its series of pathways and alcoves.

On New Zealand’s South Island’s Otago coast are mysterious round rocks — almost like marbles a giant would play with. These Moeraki Boulders, are almost perfect spheres, ranging in size from just under two feet to nearly eight feet in diameter.

The landscape in the Socotra Archipelago, located between the Guardafui Channel and the Arabian Sea, can make you feel you are standing on your head. This is because of the Dragon Blood tree which looks like it is growing upside down. It is named for the blood red sap that seeps through the bark when injured.

The Spotted Lake in British Columbia, Canada, could well have been the surface of Mars. In summer, the water in the lake evaporates, leaving behind a series of smaller ponds. So, all you get to see is polka dots for nearly half a mile.
