Indian musicians have been instrumental in preserving, as well as, popularising India’s rich artistic tradition. Our country has produced many legends whose contribution have been acknowledged by the people, and government alike.
To honour the contribution of these musical geniuses, the Government of India has been identifying and awarding them with one of the four awards given to civilians: Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
Vocalist MS Subbulakshmi is the first musician ever to be awarded the Bharat Ratna – the highest civilian award. Here’s a look at a few other awardees – all instrumentalists. Can you identify the instruments they are exponents of by listening to the audio clip?
