A sports team would be incomplete without their uniforms that are worn with pride and used as a way to differentiate themselves from other teams. Football is no different, whether they are club teams or national teams.

In football, a team has a ‘Home’ kit, an ‘Away’ kit and many professional teams also have a ‘Third’ kit. It is almost always a rule that the competing teams must wear colours that are different from other (this applies to referees too) so that the players can be differentiated. Imagine passing a ball to your opponent in the middle of a game because you thought they were your teammate! In case both the teams’ main colours are similar, the visiting team must wear their ‘Away’ kit instead. This is usually very different from their original colours or patterns. In some cases, the teams could still match the home team with their Away kit. This is why some teams have a ‘Third’ kit as well, as a reserve.

Kits and jerseys have changed in design over the years while maintaining their original colours. They change quite often. Below are the home and away kits of some popular football teams from Europe. Move the slider from the left to right to see the difference between them.
