The G20 is a forum of the twenty largest economies in the world that meets regularly to discuss the issues facing the global economy. The group was founded in 1999 after the Asian financial crisis.
The G20 members are the European Union plus 19 nations: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the UK and the US. Between them, they account for 85% of the world’s economic output, more than 75% of world trade, and contain two-thirds of global population.
Every year, a different G20 member state takes over the presidency, and sets the agenda for the leaders’ summit. The 2023 President is India. The summit was held on September 9 and 10, 2023.
