Solving subtraction problems, especially as the numbers become larger and more complex, can be made easier by following these tips:

Understand the Problem: Identify the minuend (the number you are subtracting from) and the subtrahend (the number being subtracted).

Line up the Digits: When performing written subtraction, make sure the digits are properly lined up. Place the digits of the minuend above the digits of the subtrahend so that each place value lines up correctly (ones with ones, tens with tens, and so on).

Borrowing (Regrouping): If the digit in the subtrahend is larger than the corresponding digit in the minuend, you may need to borrow from the next higher place value. This is often necessary when subtracting numbers in columns.

Work from Right to Left: Start subtracting from the rightmost digit (ones place) and move leftward. If you borrow during the subtraction process, make sure to update the digits in the next higher place value accordingly.

Check Your Work: After performing the subtraction, double-check your answer by adding the result to the subtrahend. The sum should equal the minuend, confirming the accuracy of your subtraction.

Estimate First: Before performing the actual subtraction, estimate the result. This can help you determine if your answer is in the right ballpark and if you’ve made any obvious errors.
