One of the tougher things to draw or sketch is the human body. There are so many places where you can make mistakes – disproportionate body, eyes, nose, mouth etc. It is always a good idea to get started with body proportion. In the olden days, artists used to rely on stick drawings or models. It is a good idea to start with simple stick drawings to get body proportion right – as shown below…

Once you have done that, you can focus on whatever scene or frame you want to draw, and start with the outline. Then, you can finalize your drawing by erasing the minor flaws and redrawing the scene. You can see the change from outline to final as you move the slider below…

Remember, the objective here is not about portraits, but getting the body shape and position correct. Over the next few articles, we shall look at portraits as well.
