January 26th is India’s Republic Day. It marks the day when, in 1950, the Constitution of India came into effect. It is quite a momentous occasion in the history of India.
Every year, Republic Day is marked by a grand spectacle in the form of a parade that takes place in New Delhi. This parade showcases the country at its best – its rich social and cultural heritage and its strong defence capabilities.
It is a tradition that the leader of a foreign country is the chief guest at the Republic Day parade every year. This year was extra special. Leaders from 10 countries – Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Brunei – were the chief guests at the ceremonial parade.
