Did you know that the world is divided into different time zones, with the east being ahead of the west? When you are waking up and getting ready for school, children in another part of the world are just going to bed!

Here are some examples of contrasting time zones around the world! Move the slider between these images to see the differences.

1. It’s 9.00 am in New York City, and people are getting ready to head to schools and offices. At the same time, it’s 10.00 pm in Tokyo and the day is drawing to a close. Japan is 13 hours ahead of USA.

2. Russia is the largest country in the world. No wonder then that there are 11 time zones within the country itself! When it is morning in Vladivostok (a city in Eastern Russia), Moscow (which is in Western Russia) is engulfed in darkness as it is the middle of the night there! The time difference between the two cities is seven hours.
