The heart is one of the most important organs in the body. Apart from regular exercise, adequate nutrients are needed to keep it healthy. There are multiple foods that you can consume to keep the heart fit and running.
These include vegetables such as leafy greens (spinach, collard greens, kale, cabbage), broccoli, and carrots, fruits including apples, bananas, oranges, pears, grapes, and prunes, to name a few. Then there are whole grains such as plain oatmeal, brown rice, fat-free or low-fat dairy foods such as milk, cheese, or yogurt, foods rich in protein such as fish high in omega-3 fatty acids (salmon, tuna, and trout), eggs, nuts, seeds, and soy products, legumes such as kidney beans, lentils, chickpeas, black-eyed peas, and lima beans, and nuts such as walnuts, almonds, and pine nuts, to name a few.
