Asterix and the Chariot Race (originally written in French titled “Astérix et la Transitalique” meaning “Asterix and the Trans-Italic”) is the 37th book in the Asterix series. It is the third Asterix comic written by Jean-Yves Ferri and illustrated by Didier Conrad. The book was released worldwide in more than 20 languages on 19 October 2017 with an initial print run of 5 million copies. Scroll through the photos to know how they have been cropping up in various places…

As the name suggests, the action takes place in Ancient Italy, where Asterix and Obelix meet the original inhabitants of the Italian peninsula: the “Italics”. Some of the characters that appear in the book are caricatures of some famous real-life people. An inn keeper is based on the singer Luciano Pavarotti, while a famous Roman masked charioteer ‘Coronavirus’ is modelled after race car driver Alain Prost and there is the character ‘Lupus’ who is modelled after former Prime Minister of Italy – Silvio Berlusconi! Have fun reading it!
