November 14 is your day — Children’s Day. It is the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister who loved youngsters and encouraged them. We, at The Hindu Young World, want to make it special for you.

So, we invite you to The Hindu office in Chennai. Here’s a chance to be Young World’s editor for a day. Come and see how your favourite newspaper is created. You get to decide what stories go on which page, select pictures and illustrations, and visualise the layouts.

Come, be a part of this exciting world of newspapers. All you need is a flair for writing, a keen eye to spot minute details, and a curiosity to know more. Do you have these qualities covered? If yes, you are our perfect candidate.

Here’s what you have to do:

1. If asked to be the editor of a newspaper for a day, why would you be interested in it? Write to us in about 200 words stating your reasons.

2. Lemony Snicket said, “Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.” Do you know someone like that? Isn’t it time you stepped in and changed this situation? How would you go about it? Or, as Roald Dahl said, "So please, oh please, we beg, we pray, go throw your TV set away, and in its place you can install a lovely bookshelf on the wall." So, tell us how you would get a non-reading friend to pick up a book?

Mail your entries to youngworld@thehindu.co.in — with the subject Guest Editor.

Eligibility:

1- Make sure you write your name, class, school, place and mobile number. Entries without complete details will not be considered.

2- Only readers from Stds. V to VIII can participate.

3- If chosen, we will reimburse ₹3,000 per child (maximum) towards travel allowance. In case the travel cost (to & fro) for the child + one accompanying person is less than ₹3,000, we will reimburse the actual amount.

4- You will be expected to be present at the office of The Hindu, 859&860, Anna Salai, Chennai at 10 a.m. Your ‘working day’ will come to an end at 5 p.m. The deadline to submit entries is October 15, 2019.
