Have you ever been to an airport and seen people on the runway with flags? Sometimes, you may have even noticed them doing certain gestures with those flags. Have you ever wondered what they are doing? They’re spelling out letters from the alphabet! These are called ‘Semaphores’.

Semaphores are a system of sending messages by holding the arms or two flags or poles in certain positions according to an alphabetic code. This is a form of communication to convey a message to those at a distance. The navy and airports are some of the places where this is used.

Do you think you have what it takes to decipher codes in semaphores? Try the below quiz and find out.
