A few good habits

Earth Day is celebrated on April 22, every year. On this day, there are activities held worldwide to show support for environmental protection.

The first Earth Day was supposed to have been celebrated in 1970. Over the years, it has transformed to a day where issues concerning the environment, climate summits and green initiatives have been addressed.

So what should you be doing?

For starters, you have to realise the impact of climate change, and realise that small steps on a regular basis go on to create a better environment.

Say no to plastic! It is not easy to remove usage of plastic from daily life - completely and all of a sudden; but you can slowly phase it out. Reuse your water bottle and take a cloth bag to a super market!

Plant a tree, nurture a sapling! If you have potted plants at home, nurture them. If you have the space to plant a tree, do it. It takes a little time and effort, but some things have to be done over a longer term.

Take care of the birds and animals around you. Place some water bowls in summer for birds or cats. If you have pets at home, make sure they are given adequate care.

Save water and electricity. This is something that is totally in your control. Turn off your taps and switch off the lights when not needed. Small savings from a million people leaves a significant positive impact on the environment.

Do these on a regular basis and suggest it to your friends as well. Slowly, but surely, this will become a habit and make our environment a better and healthier place to live in!
