Take a small trip with some yummy food from East Asia. The East Asian countries include China, Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, and Taiwan. A lot of the dishes in this region contain oils, fats and sauces. Unravel the images below to take a glimpse of some of the signature dishes in these countries.

China: Dim Sum

Dim Sum is a style of Chinese cuisine prepared as small bite-sized portions of food served in small steamer baskets or on small plates. They are usually served along with tea.

Korea: Kimchi

Kimchi is a staple in Korean cuisine. It is a traditional side dish made from salted and fermented vegetables, most commonly cabbage and radishes, with a variety of seasonings. There are hundreds of varieties of kimchi made with different vegetables as the main ingredients.

Japan: Sushi and Ramen

One of the first dishes that comes to mind when someone says ‘Japan’ is sushi. This dish is made with specially prepared vinegared rice, usually with some sugar and salt, combined with a variety of ingredients such as seafood, vegetables, and occasionally tropical fruits. The word sushi literally means ‘sour-tasting’.

Ramen consists of Chinese-style wheat noodles served in a meat or fish-based broth, often flavoured with soy sauce or miso. Nearly every region in Japan has its own variation of ramen.
