Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn was a Dutch draughtsman, painter, and printmaker. An innovative and prolific master in three media, he is generally considered one of the greatest visual artists in the history of art and the most important in Dutch art history. Try your hand at these shuffle puzzles and unravel some of his more famous works.
1. Self-Portrait with Beret and Turned-Up Collar
Unlike most Dutch masters of the 17th century, Rembrandt’s works depict a wide range of style and subject matter, from portraits and self-portraits to landscapes, genre scenes, allegorical and historical scenes, biblical and mythological themes as well as animal studies.
2. The Storm on the Sea of Galilee
One of his more famous works was ‘The Storm on the Sea of Galilee’, 1633. The painting is still missing after the robbery from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in 1990.
3. The Abduction of Europa
Throughout his career, Rembrandt took as his primary subjects the themes of portraiture, landscape and narrative painting. ‘The Abduction of Europa’ has been described as a shining example of the ‘golden age’ of Baroque painting.
