The word ‘plogging’ is derived from ‘jogging’ and the Swedish ‘plocka upp’, meaning ‘pick up’. And thereby hangs a fitness tale – picking up trash while running on the trail!
As an activity, ‘plogging’ involves going for a run with intermittent sit-ups, squats and lunges (to collect trash), and it seems like a more natural workout.
‘Ploggers’ take plastic bags and trash-pickers along with them so they can easily pick up and store the collected trash/garbage that they find along their route. Older people use their walking poles to pick up waste paper and plastic.
Sounds like an environment friendly exercise alright! A 30-minute workout is recommended and can help you burn a few calories too!
