Here’s some exciting news! Your very own Young World Club has won a Gold award for the Best Innovation to Engage Youth Audiences at the South Asian Digital Media Awards presented at the WAN-IFRA (World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers) India 2017 conference in Chennai recently.

Evaluation in this category was based on effectiveness in engaging youth audiences, especially children and teenagers. With a host of interactive content catering to the diverse interests of children, Young World Club has a highly engaged audience.

During the summer of 2017, the Summer Explorer Challenge, a unique interactive online summer camp for children, was conducted. Children from across the country competed with each other to cross levels, unlock titles and win exciting prizes. The Curiopedia corner, featuring curious questions asked by children, is an added feature of the website.

The Hindu Group bagged two other awards as well: www.thehindu.com won the Gold award for Best News Website. www.sportstarlive.com was awarded the silver for Best Lifestyle, Sports or Entertainment Website.

This year, the winners of South Asian Digital Media Awards were chosen from nine categories — best news website, best in lifestyle, sports or entertainment website, best digital advertising campaign, best use of online video, best data visualisation, best news mobile service, best lifestyle, sports or entertainment mobile services, best innovation new product, best in social media engagement, and best innovation to engage youth audiences.

The awards, presented by WAN-IFRA and Google, recognise publishers who have adopted digital media and mobile strategies as part of their total product offering to meet the major changes in how people consume news today. The winners will subsequently compete for the World Digital Media Awards.

WAN-IFRA, based in Paris, France, and Darmstadt, Germany, with subsidiaries in Singapore and India, is a global organisation of the world’s newspapers and news publishers. It represents more than 18,000 publications, 15,000 online sites and over 3,000 companies in more than 120 countries.
