They are furry, cute, and deceptively powerful. They can protect you from harm, but can also wreak havoc and destruction, depending on who they belong to. Yes — Pokemon!
February 27, Pokemon Day, so let’s celebrate. On this day, in 1996, the original Japanese Pokémon red and green version was released.
From the much-loved anime series, trading cards, video games, and more, the Pokemon franchise has mushroomed into a world of its own, across the world.
Anime
Pokémon, also known as Pokémon the Series, is an anime TV series based on the Pokémon video game series. It was originally broadcast on TV Tokyo in 1997. It follows the quest of the main character, Ash Ketchum, who on turning 10, starts his journey into the world of Pokémon, and dreams of becoming a Pokémon master. On the day he is to receive his first Pokémon, he wakes up in a panic, having overslept. Professor Oak, the local Pokémon researcher, has already given away the three Pokémon (Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle) to new Pokémon trainers, when Ash finally reaches Oak’s Lab. The only Pokémon that is left is a Pikachu.
Ash does his best to befriend Pikachu, but it does not trust him and does not even return to its Poké Ball, and also attacks Ash with its electric powers. It is only after Ash protects Pikachu from a group of angry Spearow that Pikachu realises how much Ash cares for him, paving way for a life-long friendship. Along with Tracy and Brock — two other Pokemon trainers he meets on the way — and their respective Pokemon, the trio fight Team Rocket’s Jessie and James, who are a part of the the crime syndicate that is forever looking to exploit Pokémon to achieve their goal of world domination.
Now figure out the who’s who of the Pokemon world by playing this memory game.
