November 17 is ‘Take a Hike’ Day, a day established to encourage groups of families and friends to get out into the wild and get a taste of nature. Hiking is a wonderful way to spend time with nature and stay fit. If you get an opportunity to go on a hike, don’t let it go!

Unravel these images while you discover the health benefits of hiking.

Since most hikes involve climbing up and down hills, it’s a great workout for your legs. It helps strengthen your glutes, quads, hamstrings, and calves. Navigating tough terrain also requires your muscles to work, to keep your body stabilised and upright.

Hikes can make you fitter for running and cycling. While exercises such as running and walking have you moving forward and backward, or up and down, hiking forces you to move in multiple directions. This way, you stabilise your muscles. Though a single hike may not make a difference, consistency helps.

Walking amidst nature is more relaxing than walking through traffic. It reduces stress and boosts your mood. Hiking with friends and family is also a great way to bond.
