A grassland is an area of dry land dominated by grasses. Huge trees and shrubs are rarely found here, mainly due to the climatic conditions and other environmental factors. Also known as transitional ecosystems, grasslands lie between the deserts and the forests.
Grasslands can be divided into two categories: tropical and temperate. The former, like the Savannah, are generally found in the interior part of continents and have a tropical continental climate where wet and dry seasons come alternately. The latter such as the Pampas, consist of grasses and/or shrubs, and the climate ranges from semi-arid to semi-humid.
Here is a fun exercise relating to grasslands. Can you match them to the places where they are found?
