Indian fast bowlers on fire
When India won its first day-night Test match against Bangladesh at Kolkata in November 2019, there was a record for the fast bowlers to cherish.
Having picked all 19 Bangladesh wickets to fall in the game (Mahmudullah retired hurt in the second innings), it was the most by Indian pacers in a home Test. In fact, it was the first home Test win ever for India when spinners had gone without a wicket!
Ishant Sharma (left) picked up nine wickets, Umesh Yadav (second from left) had eight and Mohammed Shami (right) got the remaining two. Ishant picked a five-for in the first innings and Umesh managed the feat in the second innings, making them the first Indian fast bowling pair to pick up five-wicket hauls in different innings of a Test. Ishant’s nine and Umesh’s eight wickets is also the first time two Indian fast bowlers have picked eight or more wickets in the same Test.
A look at the figures India’s seamers achieved during this feat…
