Written by Mary Shelley and published in 1818, Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus is a haunting story of Victor Frankenstein, a scientist who creates a sentient being with a horrific appearance in an unorthodox scientific experiment. Horrified by his creation, Victor abandons the creature, leading to a tragic chain of events. His creation has the intelligence of humans but is forced to live alone as most people are afraid of it. Angered by the loneliness and suffering it has to endure, the creature now seeks revenge against its creator.
