Flying kites is a wonderful hobby. Did you know that kites originated in China around two thousand years ago? The original shape of a kite was a hexagon (a shape that has six sides), though it comes in various shapes and sizes now. A dragon kite, which is a train made up of many sub-kites, is one of the most popular shapes.

The state of Gujarat hosts a massive International Kite Festival (also known as ‘Uttarayan’) in January every year. The best place to see the kites is from the Sabarmati waterfront. In the year 2012, 42 countries took part in the festival and there was an attempt to enter the Guinness book of records for maximum participation.
