On Saturday, June 1, 2019, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur played the Champions League final at the Wanda Metropolitano, Madrid, Spain. Having lost out in the final of the Champions League against Real Madrid last season, Liverpool made amends this time around, lifting the European Cup/Champions League for the sixth time in their history. Only Real Madrid (13) and AC Milan (7) have won the competition on more occasions.

A 2-0 victory gave Jurgen Klopp’s side the title, also making them only the third side to win a game against a team from each of Europe’s top-five leagues (English Premier League, French Ligue 1, German Bundesliga, Italian Serie A and Spanish La Liga) in a single season in the competition.

The only other instances when this feat was achieved was by Bayern Munich in 2012-13 and Liverpool themselves, when they last won the Champions League in 2004-05.
