The International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species, established in 1964 has become the world’s most comprehensive information source on the global conservation status of animal, fungi, and plant species. Species are assessed against five criteria based on geographic range, population size, and population decline/increase, in addition to extinction probability analyses. Species in the Vulnerable, Endangered, and Critically Endangered categories are collectively described as threatened. Here are a few of them.
