The Indian rupee (₹) is the official currency of India. ₹1 is the lowest denomination in use, while ₹2000 is the highest.
On November 8, 2016, the Government of India announced the demonetisation of ₹500 and ₹1,000 banknotes and introduced a newly redesigned series of ₹500 and ₹2,000 banknotes. Since then, notes of other denominations have been redesigned and replaced too.
