Up above the world so high

Outer space is the expanse that exists beyond Earth and between celestial bodies. Humans have always been curious about space and began the physical exploration of space during the 20th century with the advent of high-altitude balloon flights.

Look up at the sky and you are at once struck by the enormity of it filling us with wonder. Let’s take a minute to learn more about space. What is it? Space, also known as outer space, is the near-vacuum between celestial bodies. It is where everything (planets, stars, galaxies and other objects) is found. On Earth, space begins at the Kármán line (100 km above sea level).
