A national flag represents and symbolises a country. It is designed with specific meaning for its colours and symbols. Take for example, the Indian flag. It is a horizontal tricolour in equal proportion of deep saffron on the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom. White represents peace, unity and truth. Green stands for faith and fertility. And, the blue symbolises the sky and the ocean. The American flag on the other hand, has 50 stars to represent its 50 states.

But, some countries have opted to have strange and unusual designs on their flags. To know more about them, play this memory game.

No feat too small

This International Women’s Day let’s celebrate the achievements of these inspirational women.

International Women’s Day falls on March 8. The theme this year is ‘An equal world is an enabled world’, #EachforEqual.

The theme is especially apt this year as it marks 100 years since the 19th Amendment was passed in the U.S. granting women the right to vote. It coincides with the year the princely state of Travancore became the first region in India to grant women the right to vote.

Making the world more equal every year are women achievers who break glass ceilings in every domain to achieve recognition and success. Harshini Kanhekar fought bias, breaking into the male bastion to become India’s first ever woman fire fighter; Muthayya Vanitha challenged stereotypes when she became the Project Director of Chandrayaan-2 lunar mission of ISRO; G. S. Lakshmi broadened our perceptions when she was picked to be the first woman match referee to oversee a men’s One-Day International (ODI).

Let’s take a look at some women from India who serve as an inspiration.

Youngest to take Test hat-trick

With his three wickets off three balls against Bangladesh, Pakistan’s Naseem Shah became the youngest player ever to take Test hat-trick…

On February 9, 2020, on day three of the first Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh at Rawalpindi, Pakistan, Naseem Shah took a hat-trick, dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto, Taijul Islam and Mahmudullah off three consecutive balls. In the process, Naseem became the youngest player ever to take a Test hat-trick.

When 19-year-old Alok Kapali became the youngest player to take a Test hat-trick in August 2003, Naseem Shah was a six-month-old baby. Kapali, the first Bangladesh player to take a Test hat-trick, achieved the feat against Pakistan at Peshawar, Pakistan. Bangladesh, though, lost that match.

Pakistan won the match by an innings and 44 runs. The 16-year-old Naseem Shah, who had one wicket in the first innings and four in the second, was declared played of the match.

Six days after becoming the youngest bowler to take a Test hat-trick, Naseem Shah turned 17 on February 15, 2020.
