Children’s games

Children’s Games is a famous painting by Pieter Brueghel. Look closely to spot the differences.

Pieter Brueghel the Elder was a Dutch Renaissance painter.
He specialised in landscapes populated by peasants. He is often credited as being the first Western painter to paint landscapes for their own sake. He showed the rituals of village life — including agriculture, hunts, meals, festivals, dances, and games portraying the folk culture of the 16th-century.

This painting titled Children’s Games was painted in 1560 and can be seen at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. Now look for 6 differences between the two.

Venn diagrams are a way of representing information visually. Answer these questions using on the Venn diagrams shown.

A Venn diagram is a pictorial (circles and rectangles) representation of different elements of a common problem. Each circle is known as a ‘set’. Venn diagrams allow you to sort data into two or three circles that overlap. Each circle follows a rule, so any numbers or objects placed in the overlapping area (the intersection) follow both rules.

Find solutions to these problems using the venn diagrams.

Westbrook joins James

Russell Westbrook became just the second player after LeBron James to score a triple-double against every NBA team.

A triple-double in basketball is a performance during which a player accumulates double-digit figures in three of the five statistical categories – points, assists, rebounds, steals and blocked shots – in a game. While most triple-doubles are based on points, assists and rebounds, it isn’t easy to achieve it, irrespective of the categories being considered.

It is therefore no wonder that only two players have produced triple-doubles against every single NBA franchise. And both of them did it this season.

Taking centre stage

February 7 marks the 80 year anniversary of a classic tale – Pinocchio. Learn a little more about the home of where it first came to be and find out which character from Pinocchio you are.

Theatres can evolve over a long period of time, from being a place where live musicals and performances are held, to a movie theatre or to even an ice-rink (in no particular order of course). Let’s take a look at theatre that went through some major renovations in its time.

In 1940, the Center Theatre in New York City, the U.S., released the Disney Classic, Pinocchio. February 7 marks it’s 80th year of release. Pinocchio has gone from being an Italian children’s novel to an animated movie and even being performed on stage. It is a classic which tells the tale of a puppet who longs to be a real boy, and can only do so if he can prove to be brave, truthful and unselfish.

To mark the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Pinocchio, here is a personality quiz for you. Which character from Pinocchio are you?
