Sort it out

Waste management starts at home. Find out how it’s done and help your parents sort out waste responsibly. This interactive task will get you started.

An important part of being a responsible citizen is to make sure that you dispose waste correctly. To facilitate easy segregation, ‘wet’ waste and ‘dry’ waste must be kept separately. By doing this, you ensure that wet waste can be composted and dry waste can be recycled. If you have two dustbins at home, you could use one for wet waste and one for dry waste.

Dry waste means items such as paper, plastics, metal, glass, rubber, thermocol, fabric, leather, wood — anything that can be kept for an extended period without decomposing.
Wet waste is kitchen waste, including vegetable and fruit peels and pieces, tea leaves, eggshells, and cooked food. Make sure that wet waste is thrown out of the house daily. Dry waste can be thrown out twice or thrice a week.

Here’s an interactive task for you. Can you sort out the waste items correctly?

Now that you get the idea, happy sorting!
