Ho Ho Ho! Hibernation time!

It’s winter time and some of our animal friends are off into hibernation. The bears, of course, would have started some time back but who are the others?

In winter time, the environment can become too harsh for animals and they have to find a way to cope. Some animals migrate out of the area, others enter an inactive state or ‘torpor’, which they stay in until conditions suit them better. If this inactive state lasts for a long time during the winter, it is called hibernation. From big bears to small bugs, here are a few examples…


Hibernation truly is a clever survival mechanism. Remember, that animals can also hibernate in summer and this is normally called ‘estivation’.

Nobel Women

There have only been 49 women who have been awarded the Nobel Prize so far. Read on to learn more about some of these women.

The Nobel Prize is a set of annual international awards bestowed in several categories by Swedish and Norwegian institutions in recognition of academic, cultural, or scientific advances. The will of the Swedish scientist Alfred Nobel established the prizes in 1895. However, the prizes in Chemistry, Literature, Peace, Physics and Physiology or Medicine were first awarded in 1901.
