Rules of the Game – 4

Futsal is played between two teams of five players each – watch this video and learn more about this game.

Futsal is an interesting game along the lines of football but with an interesting set of rules. A standard match consists of two equal periods of 20 minutes. The length of either half is extended to allow penalty kicks to be taken or a direct free kick to be taken against a team that has committed more than five fouls. The interval between the two halves cannot exceed 15 minutes. Take a look…

Futsal currently has two governing bodies: Asociación Mundial de Fútbol de Salón (AMF) and Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). AMF is the successor organisation to the original governing body. FIFA later took an interest in futsal. However, talks between FIFA and AMF to reconcile governance were not successful. FIFA organizes its own separate competitions. Let’s see how the sport evolves.

Design from Nature – 9

We are back with an inspiration from nature – this time, with a way to harvest solar energy more efficiently

There is on-going research to create solar cells that more closely resemble nature. A network of solar panels or photovoltaic systems, which harvest solar energy, is an initiative at replicating the way a leaf harvests energy. Move the slider to have a look at the network…

The cells are created using ‘water-gel’ based artificial leaves that combine plant chlorophyll with carbon materials. This makes for a more flexible and cost-effective solar cell.

There’s another research involving lotus leaves as they repel water and self-clean when it rains. The advantage of this unique hydrophobic nature of the lotus leaf is that water literally slides off the surface, taking the dirt and dust with it. Quite interesting, isn’t it?
