Rainforests of the sea
Have you heard of the Great Barrier Reef along the coast of Australia? It is the world's largest coral reef system, comprising around 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 2,300km. In India, we find coral reefs along the Gulf of Mannar, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Lakshadweep Islands.
A coral reef is an underwater ecosystem formed by colonies of coral polyps, which cluster in groups. This ecosystem is now in danger of dying due to climate change.
