The origin of the word Robot is from "Robota" which in Czech means forced labour. Over the years, a 'robot' has come to mean a mechanical or an electro-mechanical machine that is guided by a computer program or electronic circuitry. The branch of technology that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots is called 'Robotics'.
