August 15, 1947, was a historical landmark; on that day, a nation was born. After years of strife and struggle India was free. Our freedom fighters fought a relentless battle to ensure that every Indian would enjoy the benefits and joys of being liberated. Jawaharlal Nehru became the country’s first Prime Minister. He asked the members of the Constituent Assembly to take a pledge of loyalty to the new state and free India’s National Flag was hoisted atop the Council House. In his first speech in Parliament, Jawaharlal Nehru said: “We end today a period of ill fortune and India discovers herself again”.
