For the past couple of weeks, countries in Europe have been grappling with extremely cold weather. The cold weather has been dubbed “The Beast from The East” in Britain, “Siberian bear” by the Dutch, and “snow cannon” by the Swedes. Many countries experienced heavy snowfall, blizzards, strong winds and freezing rain.

The warming due to the rise in temperature over the Arctic has affected the jet stream which brings mild air from the Atlantic to UK. As a consequence, cold air from eastern Europe and Russia is driven towards the western parts of the continent, including the UK. Dense clouds which were part of the polar vortex coming in from the Arctic.Frozen buses in Siberia. Winds from Russia pushed in from the East.Snowfall in France, right from the Alps to Paris.There was snowfall as far down as Italy. Venice looks quite different in the snow.Some of the photos came from Rome, with the palaces and the Colosseum getting a white coat.But as always, the UK bore the brunt of the cold weather.
