The Big Five
In many reserves and national parks in Africa, the ‘Big Five’ animals are almost like royalty. Everyone tries to spot them while on a safari. Who are they? The term ‘big five game’ refers to the five most difficult animals in Africa to hunt on foot. The Big Five are the lion, leopard, rhinoceros (both black and white species), elephant, and Cape buffalo.
The members of the Big Five were chosen for the difficulty in hunting them and the degree of danger involved, rather than their size. Nowadays, most of the ‘shooting’ happens through the lens!
Did You Know: The South African Rand banknotes feature a different big-five animal on each denomination.
Let’s go on a safari! Can you identify the close-ups of these big-five animals and identify them?
