Ozone layer

Just like how we use sunscreen to protect ourselves from the Sun’s rays, the Earth has its own form of sunscreen – the ozone layer! Ozone is a naturally occurring component of the Earth’s atmosphere, and it protects us from harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun. These days, the ozone layer is being depleted because of chloroflourocarbons (CFCs) coming from spray cans, ACs, refrigerators, fire extinguishers and pesticides. These chemicals break down when ultraviolet rays hit them, releasing harmful particles which destroy ozone.
