Turning green

Just like how iron rusts, copper undergoes chemical reactions when it is exposed to air. This results in the formation of a pale green outer layer called a patina. Did you know that the Statue of Liberty is made of copper? It was originally a dull brown colour. Over time, Lady Liberty turned to the green colour we see today due to oxidation!
