Humayun Tomb in New Delhi

NEW DELHI, 03/12/2012: Humayun’s Tomb, 1565-72 AD, Hamida Banu Begum, his grieving widow, built emperor Humayun’s mausoleum. precursor to the Taj Mahal it stands on a platform of 12000 sqm and reached a height of 47 metres. The earliest example of Persian influence in Indian architecture, the tomb has over 100 graves earning the name ‘Dormitory of the Mughals’. Built of rubble masonary, the structure used red sandstone, the small canopies on the terrace were originally covered in glazed blue tiles.
