October 2 is Gandhi Jayanti.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbunder, Gujarat. He believed in living a simple life and proved to the world that freedom can be achieved by means of non-violence. His principles of truth and non-violence defeated an empire.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of his birth. He fought the system of oppression. Here are some snapshots of the Mahatma’s life that will give you a better idea of the man.

The rhinoceros is a beautiful and amazing animal. There are five different species of rhino and you will find them in Africa, India and Indonesia.

In 2011, Lisa Jane Campbell of Chishakwe Ranch in Zimbabwe while searching for ideas and potential collaborators to support World Rhino Day, found Rhishja Cota-Larson’s blog. Rhishja is the founder of Annamiticus, a non-profit organisation which provides educational information and news about wildlife crime and endangered species. Lisa and Rhishja got together to make World Rhino Day a day of celebration.

Since then, the Day has grown to become a global phenomenon, uniting NGOs, zoos, cause-related organisations, businesses, and concerned individuals from nearly every corner of the world.
